COVID-19 Update
As of March 13, all soccer related activities at Ocean State Soccer are suspended due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic. We continue to collect, monitor, and follow information and recommendations put forth from Soccer Rhode Island (SRI) and Rhode Island State Officials.

SRI has tentatively set May 1st as a proposed start date for when the spring soccer season could launch. OSS is following this guideline for both it’s Recreational and Competitive programs. Although this prospect is exciting, we need to approach it with cautious optimism for a multitude of reasons; things could change.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we collectively navigate through these unprecedented times. Please continue to check back right here for updates as we move forward into April. For now, continue to practice all preventive and protective measures in the large-scale community effort of containing and combating the current health crisis.

Thank You,
The OSS Board of Directors

The OSS Recreational Soccer program encourages, promotes and teaches the skills of soccer in a fun, dynamic environment. Children will not only have the opportunity to become better soccer players by developing fundamental soccer skills and techniques, but will grow as individuals by learning the importance of team play and understanding good sportsmanship; all while developing a deeper passion for the beautiful game of soccer.

OSS attempts to build a sense of community amongst all its members; a place where players, coaches, friends, and family can come together and share common goals and experiences with each other both on and off the fields.

There are no tryouts for our recreational program and players of all skill levels between the ages of 3-18 are welcome. Per US Youth Soccer Association, players are grouped into age-specific divisions (U3-U18) based on birth years (not academic grades from school). Depending on the numbers of registrations, any under-represented divisions of similar age may be combined to form one more viable division (for example U9/U10). From there, players are placed on teams and coached by parent volunteer coaches (see below).

Recreational Program Highlights:

  • Fall Session (September - early November) - 8 weeks
  • Spring Session (April - Early June) - 8 weeks
  • 1 practice per week (M-F). Start times vary between 4:45 - 5:30 (specific practice days and times are selected at the discretion of the team coach)
  • 1 game per week on Saturdays. Game times vary between 8:30 am - 1:00 pm. Games will run 35-60 minutes depending on the division.
  • Uniforms are provided for all players enrolled before the registration deadline. This includes jerseys, shorts, and socks.
  • During the course of the season, events such as Picture Day, Cook Out Day, Food Truck/Vendor Day, Sponsor Day may be offered.
  • Early Bird Registration discounts are in effect approximately 4-5 weeks prior to the start of the season. This is a $20 savings off of the standard registration fees.
  • Parent Voluneer Coaches - The backbone to our recreational program is the support of parent volunteer coaches. Every season, 60-70 parents volunteer their time to support the organization and enrich the playing experiences of our players. All parents are welcome to participate. Commitments include 1 practice per week (45 mins +/-) and 1 Saturday game per week
  • For players in the U6-U10 age groups, there will be opportunities to participate in our OSS Winter Academy. This is a great way to further develop a player's individual skill during the off-season and prepare for future higher levels of play at OSS.
